GoodReads Blurb:
The Flesh and Fire series is set in the beloved Blood and Ash world.

Born shrouded in the veil of the Primals, a Maiden as the Fates promised, Seraphena Mierel’s future has never been hers. Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort.

However, Sera’s real destiny is the most closely guarded secret in all of Lasania—she’s not the well protected Maiden but an assassin with one mission—one target. Make the Primal of Death fall in love, become his weakness, and then…end him. If she fails, she dooms her kingdom to a slow demise at the hands of the Rot.

Sera has always known what she is. Chosen. Consort. Assassin. Weapon. A specter never fully formed yet drenched in blood. A monster. Until him. Until the Primal of Death’s unexpected words and deeds chase away the darkness gathering inside her. And his seductive touch ignites a passion she’s never allowed herself to feel and cannot feel for him. But Sera has never had a choice. Either way, her life is forfeit—it always has been, as she has been forever touched by Life and Death.

"Love is even more powerful than what courses through our veins, equally awe-inspiring and terrifying i its selfishness. It can extend a thread by sheer will, becoming that piece of pure magic that cannot be extinguished by biology, and it can snap a thread unexpectedly and prematurely"

A Shadow In The Ember is a new book from the series Flesh and Fire, it happens ages before From Blood and Ash further exploring the extremely immersive world of FBAA. Being an ardent and a loyal fan of From Blood and Ash I was super skeptical about the new spin off series because FBAA has set bar high for another plot/new characters to woo me further-BUT boy!! Was I wrong? Yes, I am happy to apologize to this book for underestimating this because move over The Crown Of Gilded Bones (TCOGB), I like ASITE over you and I am not even sorry ;)

Even though the plot is often reminiscent of From Blood and Ash, it does not stop the reader from gluing themselves to the book. It certainly has Hades and Persephone vibes except our Persephone-Sera is neither a naive maiden or allows anyone to kidnap her, she might be a Maiden in the eyes of the world but secretly she is a weapon meticulously forged by her kingdom to deceive The Primal Of Death-Nyktos, because an ancient deal made by the forefathers of Nyktos and Sera has been slowly turned to a curse devouring Sera's kingdom and the only cure? Make him fall in love, become his weakness and end him. This story is perfect for the fans of "I came to kill you but...." and enemies to lovers trope, it has a lot of bread crumbs that you would want to follow and investigate. I have so many theories after I finished reading it and I enjoyed sleuthing for the easter eggs and then going back and reading bits of TCOGB

Lets talk about Nyktos now...WE ARE OBSESSED WITH HIM! he is a tortured soul and somehow is terrifying yet a cinnamon roll, in other words he gives a STRONG competition to our dimple cheeked boii Cateel Da'Neer.

Sera and Nyktos are my new favorite OTP(one true pairing), their romance is a total contrast to what Poppy and Casteel had- it is not all consuming but is built on necessity, moving to amicable companionship which is on the verge of blossoming into something more precious. I lived for the moments between them, there are so many heartwarming scenes with very quotable dialogues, I enjoyed living in Nyktos head thoroughly and kept longing for his POV. For being The Primal of Death with an intimidating persona, Nyktos is such a bad tease, however his care of Sera is just beautiful to witness

Overall, it is a great book for anyone who loves JLA's books or ardent fans of FBAA like me!
